HOW CAN A DOULA HELP?

A doula is kinda like a fairy godmother. We are experts in what we do and want to guide you every step of the way. Think of us as a great addition to your team. It takes a village! We are PASSIONATE (read - super passionate) about helping you have a positive and empowered experience and have the knowledge and the skills to help you make it happen!  A doula is not a medical professional so you will still need either a doctor or a midwife as your primary healthcare provider.

Fairy Godmother skills include supporting you and your family through the challenges and successes of fertility, pregnancy, birth, and life with a newborn - but what does that mean? what do we DO while we work with clients?

FAQs

WHAT IS A DOULA?

A Maternal Support Practitioner is a Bebo Mia trained and certified Doula. Offering you informational, emotional, and physical support.

WHAT DOES FULL SPECTRUM MEAN AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER DOULAS?

Hello, Baby! doulas are trained in all stages to offer the best well rounded support in Peterborough! From the challenges and success of making babies, to childbirth education, pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period - we've got it covered! Each of us specialize in different areas, but we really believe a holistic approach to our work is best.

WILL YOU REPLACE MY PARTNER?

We totally get your concern and we assure you that it's quite the opposite. We actually help your partner step up and step in to this role. We normalize the experience, provide information, and suggest ways partners can lift you up - supporting you emotionally and physically. We would say a good portion of our work is supporting partners just as much as we support you.

DO YOU RUN PRENATAL CLASSES?

Hell yes we do! Our Birth + Baby Prep School is a day and a half course which is super convenient for you and a partner. It includes a ton of amazing information and exercises to prepare you for birth and raising a tiny human. Fee includes lunch, coffee and tea, and is for you and a partner.

WHEN SHOULD I TAKE A PRENATAL CLASS?

There's definitely a sweet spot around 30 weeks of pregnancy. That way you're not too tired and all the information we review is still fresh by the time you give birth. In theory, you can take it whenever you please :D

WHEN SHOULD I HIRE A DOULA?

Fertility Support

We are currently working on structuring these packages to best suit your needs. I'm going to guess if you've made it through this far in our website, you're ready for some support and navigation help.

Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum Support

Ideally you call us as soon as you find our your pregnant. We can book a consultation to get to know each other and make sure we are a good fit. Depending on your package, booking early allows us more time to get to know each other and space out your appointments so you get the most benefit from our care.

Postpartum Support

During your pregnancy they'll come a time when you realize that all your preparation for birth will do wonders, but there's that unknown world of life with a newborn before you. Around 30 weeks would be a great time to sit down with a doula and make a plan for support after birth.

See our packages here.

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DOES MY DOULA HAVE?

Doulas complete a certification program that includes "in-class" training, extensive reading, practical experience, and writing (and passing!) an exam through their chosen training organization.

As part of our training, we learned about the physiological process of conception, birth, and the healing postpartum body. We are well versed in the various interventions you have to choose from, pain management techniques, newborn care, breastfeeding support, and supporting common mental health issues and more.

CAN A DOULA DO THE SAME THINGS A MIDWIFE OR OB CAN?

Doulas and midwives have different but complimentary roles. We will not be doing any of the medical checks or charting that your midwife or nurse does; things like cervical checks and fetal monitoring are not a doula's "thing". In a nutshell, your midwife can focus on your health and wellness. Your doula can focus on your comfort and confidence. When all of these factors are well managed and supported, birth can happen however you want it to!

WHY DO DOULAS AND MIDWIVES/NURSES/OBS MAKE SUCH A GREAT TEAM?

Doulas and care providers are like peanut butter and jelly.

We are all on the same team - midwives, OBs, nurses and doulas are focused on helping you birth on your own terms. Statistiacally speaking, we all know that a well supported person will have a more positive and empowered birth experience. With a Hello, Baby! doula on board your team, we work beautifully together(or around each other... over each other ... and even under each other) with ease. We lighten the load, we lend a hand, share information and positive stories, and get you through feeling confident and empowered!

That all sounds amazing, are you available to be my doula?

We hope so! Our calendars can book quickly so make sure you inquire early. We look forward to hearing from you!

what do your packages include?

Our packages provide you with the care, support and resources you need at any time in your journey. We designed our packages with a holistic approach in mind. They are accessible and provide overlap in the different stages of this childmaking, growing and raising thing. We believe it makes a difference when you have someone with you through the ups and downs and who knows and gets you and your family and that time together allows us to provide you with the best care possible.

Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely! We require a 30% deposit to hold your spot. After that we can work with your schedule. Usually it's easy to pay us at our prenatal appointments but we are also able to break it down. Here are a few examples.

  • Weekly
  • Bi-weekly
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
  • Prenatal Appointments

We do require your full invoice to be paid no later than 30 days before your due date. That way, you make sure we actually show up to your birth ;) Kidding! We'd never leave you hanging. It happens! We're all human. But that way you don't have to worry about it once your baby is born.

Do you support clients outside of Peterborough?

Absolutely! We are happy to travel to come and support you. We have a radius we are comfortable travelling to depending on the time of year. If youโ€™re outside of Peterborough by more than an hour please let us know in your consultation (book here!).

I might give birth any day, can I hire you?

Yes. Depending on our schedules we can accommodate you. Sometimes this is exactly why you need us. Donโ€™t hesitate to contact us regardless of where you are in your journey!
